WebThe Eyemouth Disaster was caused by a European windstorm which struck the south-eastern coast of Scotland (Berwickshire), and England on 14 October 1881. One hundred and eighty-nine fishermen, mostly from the village of Eyemouth, were drowned. The event is still referred to locally as "Black Friday".
