It should not , maybe for a sec during start up but that's it. If it keeps spinning that's what is giving hard shifting then you will need to remove the clutch and open it up.

So basically if you put shifter in neutral and the cable is loose at the arm no adjustment needed. But yes you should be able to see or feel it the same on top.

You have to push the brake to start it in gear. Sometimes the primary will drag the belt at idle a little causing the hard shift.
